one beer and we all get cocky

a glass of wine and it’s

two rungs up the social ladder

alcohol is cheap confidence

a discounted dash of courage

bargain basement bluster

200 cents of temporary

ascendance in the world

and what’s wrong with being

Cinderella for a night?

loopy creations on the dance floor

falling out your glass slippers

some not-so-subtle slurs

to hold the eyes of onlookers

who can’t take them off you

till the lights wink off and

you’re seen leaving

down that dark alley

that hopefully leads home
