whenever you open your mouth

one of my eyes turns to look

at one of yours sometimes they aren’t very outgoing

those shy shifting windows for seeing

and often wait on cold doorsteps

for invitations to speak

well here’s my offer to you

Friend you can stop shivering and sit by the

warmth of my friendship and tell me everything

your mouth neglected to say
