Four Months Later

Gary Hunter

Maybe I’ve just been feeling the weather

unable to escape the relentless searing sun

but you brought me upright

when your voice threw me

the shade of a fat summer cloud

I remember the wonderful trouble

we attracted when getting seriously drunk

on what fermented in our hearts

with love as the alcohol we used to

laugh all night like two stumbling winos

with an empty alley all to ourselves

Can you imagine what it would be like

to again drape my arm over your shoulders

and lean my head on yours?
