I think every poet should host

parties of odd fellows

introduce adverbs to verbs

that have never spoken before

adjectives to nouns

that have only gazed across

the room at each other

see who couples off

to some corner

in heavy discussion

before I eavesdrop

or leaves the gathering

running

and holding hands

with me in hot pursuit

if you must know

the most exciting poems

are written while I’m still

catching the breath
