both camel’s buckle

and fold like shopping bags

groan as knees and hooves

kick up dust as we slide off

warm sand sifts through

the sandals our backs

to a redneck sun

we reach a shaded table

order drinks and the special

and wait it comes all at once

a Domino’s large pepperoni

and two sodas

before we leave I frame

a selfie of the two of us

in front of a sunset

flaring behind Giza

that picture still

one of my favorites

with the mysterious red schmear

everyone asks me about
