Poetry Isn't Necesary - May 16, 2024

we don’t require eye-burning sunsets

or spilled-paint sunrises

never need to watch a dog spin

or a hummingbird build a nest

we could live just fine without rainbows

eclipses and falling stars

none are necessities for survival

and yet  what would life be like

if only tasks lay ahead

if nothing turned our head

and touched us deeply

or if a few chosen words

never melted into a key

that unlocked a door

we didn’t know was there
