Poetry Rock gets a Visitor - Feb. 5, 2024

as I walk by    she’s sitting

on the curb with her just-

peeled orange and takes

a bite out of a poem

sometimes it’s better

not to be so friendly

and interrupt someone

in the middle of eating

so I go inside

ten minutes later look out

there’s a fragment of a peel

laying in the gutter

but no her   she’s walked

away and into this

poem to help me

bring it to a close

so I write down a gratuitous

“thanks for visiting”

though I shy from asking

which she enjoyed more

the orange

or

the poem
