don’t we all employ

rarely used words

in quirky combinations

with partial breaths

adding hand gestures

and shrugs huge sighs

and stares off into space

to convey some fumbled meaning

of affection into another’s basket?


said with great relief

one sweetheart to another:


I’m glad we use our eyes to speak

the things our mouths can never say
