The Timing of Forgiveness - June 30, 2023

planted a raspberry bush today

with an outlook of a hard life

here in the hellish desert

she will need our version

of assisted living and

special meals lots of

visits plenty of love

I’ll use the stretched shadows

of a fence and some trees

to shield the brutal afternoon rays

prop her up after dust storms

with bamboo canes

to support her bent canes

they’ll be hydration levels to watch

and attention to the sores

she’ll get from the sun

sounds cruel doesn’t it?

to make this poor lady work

in conditions she never expected -

handing out sweet berries with

heat-stroked hands on burned

and desiccated arms

well it’s too late now

she’s been planted

and it probably wouldn’t

be the best time

to ask forgiveness

if my lips are painted red
