I find these days difficult

to keep debris and damage

from penetrating my heart

too many doors forced open

with dirty shoes and dirtier words

crossing their thresholds

one day angry people in a mob

shouting and waving mental pitchforks

enter looking for any feeling to attack

reminds me I don’t know who

I need to ask to get back

a few precious things

that were stolen
