it’s often on effortless days

arriving with a perceivable whiff

like a fountain of jasmine

spilling over the garden wall

and departs just as quickly

by a greedy bee

that steals it all with one sting

or a stiff gust that

flattens the trellis

crushes the vines

how sad it is to watch

a friend comb the rubble

for something to remember it by
